Twisted Tubular Herringbone Tutorial

Product Details

1. Start With a Ladder of Beads

Make a ladder of beads using an even number of beads. The ladder should have 6 beads or more in it. The ladder in the example has 6 beads.

2. Work the First Four Rows in Regular Herringbone Stitch

Work in regular tubular herringbone stitch for a total of four rows.

3. The First Stitch of the Spiral

On the fifth row, start to make a spiral: Pick up two beads and go down through the next bead as if you were making a regular stitch.

4. The Second Part of the Spiral

Instead of coming up through one bead of the next pair, take needle and thread down to the second row and come up through three beads.

Pull snugly so that the two beads just added “bend down” towards the bottom of the beadwork.

5. Continue to Stitch in This Manner

For the remainder of the bead pairs, pick up two beads, go down through the next bead, and come up through three beads. Pull snugly so that the beads just added will “bend down” towards the bottom of the beadwork. Remember that at the last pair of beads, you will go up through four beads instead of three.

Keep your tension tight as you work to get the spiral going. Another benefit of keeping your tension tight is that you will not see much thread in between beads as you work and the spiral will look neater.
