Making a Wire Wrapped Bead Cap

Product Details

Step 1

Begin a basic wire wrap by stringing a bead or beads on the head pin. Remember to have at least two inches of wire above the last bead.

Step 2

Using the tips of your chain nose pliers, grab the wire directly above the last bead.

Step 3

With your finger, push the wire to a 90° angle.

Step 4

Using you round nose pliers, grasp the wire right at the bend.

Step 5

Pull the wire around the round nose pliers until it is almost pointing directly down.

Step 6

Reposition your pliers by opening your round nose pliers (but do not pull the pliers out of the loop) and pivot your pliers so the bottom tip is on the top.

Step 7

Continue pulling the wire around the nose of the pliers until the loop is completely round.

Step 8

To then wrap the loop, grip the loop with the chain nose pliers and grip the end of the wire with your fingers.

Step 9

Wrap the wire around the head pin. Continue wrapping the wire down to the bead like you would for a basic wire wrap.

Step 10

Once you have completed the basic wire wrap, begin making the cap by first wrapping the wire around the last wrap.

Step 11

Again, do another wrap around the one in step 10. Use the wrap from step 10 to form against. This will be your second wrap of the bead cap.

Step 12

Stop wrapping when you have as large of a cap as desired. For this technique, we chose to do three wraps.

Step 13

Using the wire cutters, cut off the extra wire as close as you can to the beads.
