Leaf Necklace

Product Details

What you’ll need:

•jumprings (5 x 4mm, 2 x 7mm, 1 x 6mm)

•1 clasp

•20 x 3mm beads

•1 cabochon setting (the same size as your button)

•chain, 9.5cm and 25cm for the main chain, and 1cm, 1.5cm and 2cm for the dangles

•1 glass button

•2 drop-shaped beads

•1 leaf charm

•20 eyepins

•beading wire, about 20cm

•a pair of flat-nose pliers, round-nose pliers and wire cutters

Instructions:

1) Place the glass button in the cabochon setting.

2) Gently fold and close the prongs with flat-nose pliers.

It looks like this from the side. The button has diamond-shaped shank at the back, so I could only use ‘open-back’ type of setting. If your button is flat-back, you can use other types of setting, of course.

3) Add a 6mm jumpring to the setting.

4) Next, Add a 4mm jumpring and 2cm chain to the leaf charm.

5) Thread a drop-shape bead to beading wire, and twist the wire once above the bead.

6) Trim one of the wires, create a loop above the twist using round-nose pliers, and add 1.5cm chain.

7) Wind the wire below the loop for about 3-4 times.

8) Cut off the excess tail wire and squeeze down the tip so that no sharp edge sticks out.

9) Repeat step 5 to 8 for the other drop-shape bead (add 1cm chain for this one).

10) Add 4mm jumprings to the ends of each chain, and add them and the button to a 8mm jumpring.

11) Next, let’s make beaded chain. Thread a bead to an eyepin, and bend it at a 90 degrees angle.

12) Leaving about 1 cm, snip off the excess eyepin with the wire cutter. Grasp the end of the eyepin with the round-nose pliers, then twist it in a circular motion until the end of the eyepin forms a small loop.

13) Repeat step 11 and 12 to make the second loop, then simply add the first loop to the second loop before closing it.

14) Continue the steps to connect all 20 beads.

15) Connect the end of the beaded chain to the end of shorter chain.

16) Connect the other end of the beaded chain, the jumpring and the end of longer chain.

17) Add a clasp and the end of shorter chain to a 4mm jumpring, and add a 8mm jumpring on the end of the longer chain. And… you’re done!
